and have you ever heard about something called the
'seven deadly sins'?
they have never been explicitly listed in the bible, but there are some referrences to the them here and there. it takes knowing to pick them out, which unfortunately, i do not possess.
Christians don't need to
know this, but i think they should at least have some surface knowledge about such things. it helps a lot in personal growth. :)
if your not interested in such things, just wander off on your way. :)

for those not in the know, the seven deadly sins are as follows:
pride, lust, envy, wrath, greed, gluttony and sloth.
and yes, there is a difference between greed and gluttony.
but patience is a virtue, and thou shalt wait for me to ramble. :)

pride.
"Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall." - Proverbs 16:18
this is one that may be easy to understand, but extremely difficult to see whether we have fallen into or not. and i think that thats the scariest part of it all. :pride, to put is simply, is the inability to depend on God, spiritual blindness, ignorance to God's intervention and an overdependence on oneself. yet most of the time, we think that we are not prideful, but that thought in itself is pride.
we who have temporal souls should not speak as though we fully comprehand the eternal things of God.
pride leads to non-teachablily, fruitlessness and a perpentual spiritual dryness as we tell ourselves again and again that we're alright with God, we just have to 'work harder'. but most of the time, it is we deceiving ourselves.
the greatest lie is when he who starts it believes in the lie itself.
now, this includes 'spiritual' lies - are our lives really us, or has pride taken over to mantain that 'oh-i'm-a-great-spiritual-being' facade in place?

envy
"For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice." - James 3:16
to spell it out simply, envy is the want/love/yearning of what others have. The want to do something as good as someone else, the love of something someone else possess/has, the yearning of talents/abilities that God did not give to you for reasons unknown.
this sin plays along the lines of not appreciating what you have, and by looking to others to see what you do not have, causing yourself to feel less than others and becoming unconsciously bitter about it.
"Why can't i do this as well as her? why can't i do that as well as him?"
it all starts with a simple 'why can't i', 'if only i have this/that'.
what about our 'what can i's? 'thank God i have this/that's?
there's nothing wrong in asking God to bless us in this area of that, but it becomes an sin when we
know we do not really
require this skill/talent/ability (i.e because there are others who can do it) yet we still want it.
sound familiar anyone?

"Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret-it leads only to evil." - Psalm 37:8
it must be understood that yes, God does gets angry, and that yes, that anger in itself is not a sin, but the
reasons behind it are. God was angry for
our sakes, because we were too foolish to make sensible decisions; think about it, if a father gets angry with his son for dashing out to retrieve a ball from the road, would we say that the father sinned? no, we would not. the father's anger was borne out of great worry for his child. this runs parallel as to why God gets angry. :)
rather, however, wrath (or anger if you prefer) is a sin when we get angry
for ourselves, when we feel maligned by circumstances and so become petty and look for chances where the anger may be 'reasonable' (i.e young child making a lot of noise) and thus released.
infringement of personal rights will never be a good reason to get angry over, in fact, it can be said to be quite frankly
ridiculous. i have my rights for personal space intruded upon dozens of times a day, but my blood pressure is still at a normal level i'll let you know. and what rights do we have exactly? who gives us these rights?
we were born with nothing except our physicals selves, and so throughout our entire lifetimes, we actually don't really possess anything, be it rights, money or any other random thing.
and if we were to be born to have rights, God would have had attached a manual to us stating them.
and do you know that happy people live longer?
there's a reason why we shouldn't get angry afterall. :)
